Telescope Preparations for IMACS


A variety of changes and/or additions will be made to the Magellan 1 telescope,
its west Nasmyth platform, and the telescope control room, in preparation for
the delivery and installation of IMACS.


 

7/24/02  The west Nasmyth platform on Magellan 1 is being stiffened to increase
the resonant frequencies of the platform and the instrument.  A diagonal
stiffener (background) and a longitudinal stifferer(foreground) can be seen in
this image.

Additional space on the platform was desired for mounting the IMACS
electronics enclosures.  The "mini-platform" has recently been added,
and can be seen in this image.
